As a teacher in a Title I school, many of my students do not have access to a print-rich environment at home. Studies show that students who are not exposed to a variety of text at a young age enter school with a significant gap in word knowledge, putting them at a disadvantage to their peers of higher socioeconomic status. However, ALL students deserve the opportunity to succeed and thrive in the school environment. For this reason, I feel it is my duty to create an environment for students which has an abundance of texts to engage them, excite them, and encourage them to continue reading and learning! Additionally, this project will allow me to purchase book bins for students. This will allow each student to have an individual bin to store their books, which is essential during the time of COVID-19. Further, it gives students a place and a space to foster their love of reading. Thank you so much for considering my students for your donation!
