We located the perfect place on campus for students to feel welcomed and create their garden. Since we started this project during the middle of this school year, we have a lot of work to do. Donated supplies such as raised garden beds and a variety of tools will continue to enhance students’ vision. Our target for this project is for students to understand the different stages involved from planting the seeds, watching them grow, harvesting produce, to preparing and donating. A "Farm to Table" approach. They will understand the reason plants are needed and why they are an essential resource for our environment, humans, and animals. We came up with the name "Ho'oulu" for our class garden because it means "to grow." The class felt it was the perfect name, as our students continue to learn and grow with their unique abilities. This will also help them support their families. Many depend on the land for these essential resources. Our hope is to eventually fill our garden with several raised planter boxes to support the various physical constraints of our students. This will not only enhance student learning but also beautify our beautiful rural town.
