In a Social Studies classroom, the material is often presented via a dense academic textbook. But when you work in an ICT Social Studies class, that textbook becomes problematic for students. The textbook often lacks the scaffolding, visuals and language needed to make the content meaningful for ICT students. Students in an ICT setting need the curriculum presented in a different way. Having materials such as these graphic novels will present the curriculum to students in the form of a highly visual story. Students will be engaging with the exact same curriculum as their peers but in a way that is more meaningful to them and allows them the freedom to work with the curriculum at a level that is comfortable for them.
