My student population can relate to and identify with many of the themes in the book, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. My students do not have regular access to a library because of the pandemic, and I want to make sure I provide them with an engaging novel to read together during distance learning this semester. I will read the book during our online classes , and we will analyze the journey of Julia, the main character, who has tragically lost her sister and is also trying to navigate trying to find herself while living in a Mexican-American home. Many of my students understand the struggle of trying to fit into two different cultures while maintaining a sense of self. They will end the novel by writing an analysis essay of Julia.
