The Engineering and Technologies Academy at our school is competing in both the Team America Rocketry Competition (TARC) and the NASA Student Launch (SL) rocketry competition. We are competing with some of the nation's most prestigious engineering universities. First and foremost is safety. I've made it a priority to update the lab that the students work in with a medical cabinet that will always be stocked with bandages and other first-aid materials. As an engineering teacher, I teach the students to plan smart and always know where to look for aid. We also take a first aid kit and fire extinguisher to all of our rocket launches. The tools such as the sockets, multimeter, wire strippers, cordless drill, etc., will give the students invaluable hands-on experience with real tools. They will learn how modern tools work and use them for troubleshooting and building complex electronic systems on our dual-deployment rockets. These supplies will give a group of mostly freshman and sophomores a boost in the competitions that they have dedicated so much time to this school year, and I look forward to competing for all the way into April! They will also be able to use this equipment to compete for years to come!
