All students crave the ability to see the relevance of what they are learning in real-time. Students can often understand and appreciate a concept without seeing it’s an application in the real world, but it becomes much more meaningful if they can connect it to something. The teenage brain craves novelty: it retains information that is connected to the excitement and positive emotion. Trigonometry is one of the areas of mathematics where there are so many real-life comparisons: if only we had the tools! This kit will give my students a way to visualize trigonometry in a meaningful, interesting, and instantaneous way. The different visualizations of sound waves will provide my students with a variety of examples of trigonometric functions that they can actually see! The visual, auditory, and tangible components of these demonstrations will spark an interest in students that will get them excited about trigonometry and physics, and give me an opportunity to provide some cross-curricular instruction!
