As a teacher, I am used to being on my feet almost all day. This helped me manage the herniated disc I developed my first year teaching. However, my seating posture, compounded by the stress of teaching in a pandemic, has brought severe lumbar pain back into my life. At home, I have been teaching in an unstable, beaten-up office chair that I found on the streets of Brooklyn in 2016. Since March, I have spent 8 hours a day teaching remotely in this broken down, off-balance chair. I have tried several exercises, cushions, and stretches' to help, but none can make up for the 8 hours I spend sitting in discomfort. While this might come off as a bougie goal, I am hoping to get an ergonomic chair that help my tailbone get through the tail-end of this pandemic. In addition to a new chair, I am hoping to get a laptop stand so that I don't have to hunch over. I want to be the most present, engaged educator possible for my kids right now. By supporting me in this simple way, you are helping me support all of my students. Do you have my back?
