A focus in our classroom this year has been social emotional learning. A goal of mine as an educator has always been to make my classroom a safe and inclusive space. I stand firmly in my beliefs that mental health is equally if not more important than academics. I teach in a low income area and many of students come to school each day and crave the safe environment where they know they are loved. I want to be able to provide the tools students need to learn how to care for themselves and those around them. Nearly all of the books I have listed are titles I would like to implement in my social emotional curriculum and would like to have available in my classroom library. I also have selected the teachers pay teachers gift card because nearly all of my social emotional resources have come from tpt. My school unfortunately does not have a SEL curriculum available for us so I have attempted to compile my own from the various resources I have purchased. Another passion I have is cultural representation. Over half of my classroom and my school district is Native American. I want to be able to provide my students with books that represent who they are and their culture. I also want to expose my students to other cultures that they may not be as familiar with. This is why I selected the other book titles in my list. Lastly, I want my students to learn in a way that is comfortable to them. My classroom is full of energetic kiddos who are constantly on the move. I would love to be able to provide flexible seating options for them in order to provide an opportunity for them to take charge of their learning.
