We have started a new district-wide curriculum. While our first two modules included a novel study, this third module does not. The curriculum encourages students to read independently at home during this third module. Reading alone is a challenge for many, so having a novel the entire class is reading will help keep them motivated and moving forward through their book. This novel also aligns perfectly with the topic and work we are doing in class as we read through portions of Frederick Douglass' Narrative. Reading "Chains" will help them make connections and our class discussions will only grow their reading and comprehension skills. This will be a novel that will add to our curriculum for years to come.
