A positive student-centered classroom provides choice and calmness. The classroom is a safe haven for many students. These items will help provide some necessary storage and items to utilize flexible seating in the classroom. Allowing my students to choose their learning space that is appropriate for their needs will help to increase engagement and productivity. Take a look around at Starbucks! Many people choose different seating based on their needs- a comfy chair for reading, a table for schoolwork, or a couch for conversation. This type of learning environment is far from the traditional rows of desks of the past. As educators, we must adapt our practices to reflect what we learn from current research and data. I would love to provide my students with a new learning environment that is tailored to their needs.
