DNA is a big polymer that has to be cut into smaller pieces in order to compare individuals. The micropipets allow students to obtain small samples of DNA to be used in a gel electrophoresis separation. We need two different sizes of micropipets to allow for different volumes to be dispensed of chemical reagents. The students will get hands on lab experience with this opportunity. It is the most realistic high school lab that I teach and students remember this experience going into college. They say they feel like "real" scientists!
