My students are learning vital life skills and learning to take care of a living plant can help teach them responsibility and routine, and how good it can feel to help a living thing grow and thrive. My hope is to also have an herb garden to help with the cooking portion of our sister class, where students will be able to practice social skills by delivering an "order" to the other class. My students will each get a seedling kit to take care of at school, and one to take home with them. The one to take home with them will help them learn independence and routine with out guidance, after learning how to take care of the same type of plant in the classroom.
