Students will learn about contemporary printmaking Artist Shepard Fairey, who created the iconic Barak Obama poster in 2008. Through carving small rubber blocks, students will learn about positive and negative, reverse image-making, and how to make a bold personal art statement in a small space. We will also be able to create repeat patterns, practice math concepts such as measuring, geometry, shapes, and ruler skills. We will look at the contemporary work of fabric artist Andrea Lauren. By printing our blocks on fabric, students will make connections to many of the great African Prints our students' families wear.
