My students love books but struggle with reading on grade level. They enjoy listening to stories read to them. Creating a listening center in my classroom will be academically helpful for my students. The listening center will provide a reading model that will allow my students to hear fluent reading and learn critical listening skills. I will also use the listening center help students decode unfamiliar words and learn new vocabulary. Additionally, this listening center will allow me to introduce new genres of books to my students as well as book above their reading level. This learning center will be a much needed independent station in my classroom for students who need additional support or redirection after completing small group lessons without the use of classroom technology.
