The band program has great instruments and facilities, but we need great assistance with the upkeep of the instruments (reeds for the instruments, cleaning kits, future repair costs). The district could not provide an actual upkeep budget so we must now find creative ways to tie the loose ends as the vast majority of our students cannot afford to pay for the aforementioned items. For instance, we did not receive a budget for concert band and jazz band sheet music which is the main thing I would like to request for our students. It is highly imperative that I teach our youth how to become more musically literate in reading and writing legitimate music. The issue with legitimate music is that it can be very expensive. Just one Frank Ticheli piece can cost as much as $175. We need at least 50 new works, which can cost as much as $2,500.00 so this grant could greatly assist the band. In fact, this sheet music would be utilized for our virtual students at home so that we can put a virtual performance together. We would be highly appreciative if we could receive the new music as this would prepare our students with the necessary skills to earn top band scholarships to pursue their individual dreams. Lastly, in the age of COVID safety precautions, we always need more personal protective equipment. This means that we really need specialized face masks for wind instrumentalists, as well as bell covers for each instrument. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I hope that we can put out a product that our state of Arkansas can be proud of thanks to your contributions!
