I teach in a community that is 50% African American. However, our library collection does not reflect the diversity of our community. I want to give my students mirrors of themselves in the books on my shelves. And, I want my white students to see images of people of color to help normalize diversity. I also want to include books that feature female characters and characters with special needs. This will help generate an acceptive and safe climate for all students. Thank you for your help creating an inclusive library collection.
