Without appropriate support, many times our most "challenging" students develop adverse feelings towards school which affects them as they grow and mature. We look into the function of the behavior to determine what level of support the student requires and give them the individual attention that they deserve and may not be used to. My passion is looking at the big picture and developing a plan to assist our students in understanding their true potential as their "challenging behavior" is merely a form of communication. What are they trying to tell us and what can we do to make sure they are heard? Examples of the visual support I will be able to provide will include, but are not limited to, visual schedules to ease anxiety, token boards as a form of positive reinforcement, and social stories to promote emotional development and self-regulation.
