Cross-curricular activities, or connecting multiple subjects together, is a critical part or a rich education. An exposure to rich literature can occur not only in reading or writing, but in math class too! Having a math library in grades K,1,2 and 3 would be a wonderful addition to our already rigorous math lessons. Teachers would be able to choose a book from the math library that ties into the standard or skill they are teaching, and use that particular book as an anchor text to introduce the lesson. As teachers, we know that reading aloud to students is necessary, and sometimes it doesn't happen enough. Having this math library would allow students to enjoy an engaging story, and connect it back to math. I would be so thrilled to create this experience for them as the math specialist at my school!
