Young children learn best when they have concrete materials they can use to solve math problems. I meet with my students in small groups every day to practice concepts from our whole group lessons. During distance education, my students do not have access to counters or cubes to help them work through a problem using objects they are able to manipulate. My students would benefit greatly from having the same materials I am using to teach them strategies for counting, adding and subtracting. Hands on practice is the best way for them to learn.
