The students enjoy using new materials that they have not used before. Students will create an embossed image of their artwork onto a piece of thin sheet metal using wooden tools. Repousse, which is a French word meaning "to push," used in the art of metal tooling. Students will draw an image of an organic subject, then use wooden styling tools to press and emboss their image onto their piece of sheet metal. Students will learn about embossing, engraving, and the technique of Repousse while reinforcing the concepts of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
