I educate over 600 students per week at RPES. Face to face and online education needs to reflect our culturally diverse school community. Unfortunately, our collection of books lack culture diversity and social diversity. Each day the students engage in literature circles (book talks) and comprehension activities. The hybrid group also participates in weekly book circulation. Slowly, I am trying to add inclusive books to our school book collection. My hope is to have the books mirror the realistic lives of our children. Remotely, these books could be read aloud to the children to encourage a love for reading. Our students live in poverty and need to have access to a variety of books that depict single families, parents in jail, gender acceptance, and more. In addition, an E-reader would give special needs (low academic students) students the opportunity to enlarge font and have text to speech access. As we circulate books will will need to clean and sanitize each material. We will need to have a healthy supply of wipes. The main goal is to get rich, diverse books in the hands of children. Please consider donating to our school.
