My littles love to learn through play! Many of them do not have toys at home, and it makes them excitedly thankful for even the simplest toys and games to use at school. In our classroom, students are diligently practicing fine motor skills, yet many of them struggle with clear verbal expression. This communication difficulty dampens their excitement to share in class as some notice that friends (and even I, as the teacher) cannot understand them. While I can try to ensure that they receive language supports, I want to give them opportunities to thrive in the classroom as well. We want to use LEGO bricks to help us "show-and-tell" our stories and ideas so we can best articulate our thoughts to one another. We can use these fun learning tools to practice colors and patterning in math, to enhance problem-solving and creativity, and to combine visual, oral, and written techniques for story-telling in reading. Seeing their rapidly-growing fine-motor skills, I believe Legos will help my littles to "get their brave on" for all kinds of storytelling! LEGO bricks meet the kinesthetic-tactile needs of all young learners, but they are especially important to my students who have difficulty with social processing and need touch to learn. Thank you for giving us a tool to help remove the frustration from communication through visual tools and to make my students' learning more interactive!
