Technology is a powerful tool that can take students' learning beyond the walls of our classroom. Technology has become a daily part of each lesson taught in classrooms throughout our nation. Teachers use technology as a visual aid and can also make it interactive through many programs. Students use this same technology to complete the lessons and further their learning independently. I am in need of more Chromebooks for my classroom. They will be used for daily activities, as well as extension projects throughout the year. One of my goals for my students is that they not only learn how to apply reading strategies, but they learn to love to read. I want them to immerse themselves in multiple genres of books, explore new worlds, meet important people from the past, learn lessons about friendship, kindness, the possibilities are really limitless. And while I have built a very nice library in my classroom, the virtual library we use through Epic, will give them access to a much wider variety of genres and levels for independent reading time. My students also began taking STAAR on a computer. The reading strategies used with pencil and paper tests do not convert as easily as one may think onto a computer. With each student getting the opportunity to use a Chromebook as often as possible, implementing their reading strategies, it will not only help them navigate the waters of state testing, but of their future in the classroom and beyond, as well. We are currently at a 1:3 ratio, my goal is 1:1 which would be an additional 8 Chromebooks.
