If my wish were granted, I would like to bring technology to the percussion classroom. My wish includes purchasing electronic drums and percussion. Students will have the opportunity to experiment, create, and record their music on instruments and equipment that they otherwise would not have the opportunity to use. These instruments will also allow me to better demonstrate technique and musical concepts while we are in an online learning setting. Since most of these instruments can be directly connected to an IPAD or laptop, the sound can be directly fed into the Zoom classroom. In addition, when we return to in person learning and theatre productions can resume, these electronic instruments will also be used in conjunction with our Musical Theatre program. Percussion students who play in the pit orchestras for our musical will have access to the same equipment professionals use on Broadway. Often, percussionists will be required to use between 25-50 different instrument for one musical. With this technology, students will be able to use digital patches to mimic acoustic instruments, thus saving time, energy, and space.
