1.ME.K.1: Identify different emotions, 1.ME.K.2: List Ways a person shows different emotions. These are Nevada's health standards for Mental and Emotional health for Kindergarten. My students this year have zero experience dealing with their emotions in a public setting surrounded by a room full of peers. Having tools available for them to learn to focus and ways to calm down are essential to keeping me free to teach the rest of the class while they take the time they need to re-focus. The items I chose will be quiet but effective for calming and self-regulating while getting them back to learning quickly without distracting others. Speaking and Listening Standards address how to be a good learner. In order to be a good learning, students must learn self help skills for emotions and social interactions in a new setting. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.K.6 Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly.
