My students are eager learners who have the motivation to communicate their thoughts and ideas through gestures, pictures, and verbal approximations. Several of my students who are non-verbal or minimally verbal have demonstrated their communicative readiness skills that will be enhanced by the use of an iPad with a communication program. The iPad will provide my students with a consistent means of communication. A communication app, such as Snap Core First will be added to allow students to have pages to easily access vocabulary to communicate their wants and ideas. The communication app on the iPad is a type of assistive technology that my students will utilize for communication purposes in their academic and social settings. Nonverbal and minimally verbal students are not able to be easily understood when they attempt to communicate with peers and adults, the iPad and communication app give them the opportunity to learn how to use words to communicate their wants and needs. The iPad with the Defender Otterbox Case and Utility Series Latch II Case is ideal because it is lightweight and portable, as well as durable for students with special needs.
