These literacy games, such as Splash Jr, magnetic letters, and Lace-A-Word Beads, will help our students develop skills in decoding two-syllable words, CVC words, blends and digraphs, vowel sounds and sight words, identifying beginning sounds, uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and rhyming sounds. They will also help them learn to follow multistep directions and work cooperatively with one another. The skills targeted in these games are necessary for students to master in order to improve their reading levels. Second-grade teachers are tasked with preparing students to be able to read and comprehend text for the NYS ELA assessment they will take next year in third grade. When students are able to decode words quickly, they become more fluent in their reading, which supports their ability to comprehend text.
