A major topic of study in 6th grade science is the food chains that exist within ecosystems. A great way to study this is to investigate what owls eat. Students will be able to dissect an owl pellet to discover what (and how much) owls eat, based on what area of the country they live in. Since students are not allowed to work in groups due to COVID restrictions, I need to be able to provide each student with their own owl pellet. In previous years, students have thoroughly enjoyed this activity. They are grossed out at first, but they enjoy taking apart the pellet and piecing together the skeletons of small animals. I enjoy watching them get over their fear of something an owl has regurgitated and letting their curiousity overcome their fear.
