The tape allowed us to hang projects around the room, turning the classroom into a learning gallery, while the glue sticks and double-sided tape helped students assemble their work easily. Students were proud to point out their projects and explain their thinking to classmates.\r\nTheir excitement was clear as soon as the materials arrived, and many asked when we could start the next project. The Clorox wipes are now part of our daily lab routine, with students taking responsibility for cleaning tables before and after experiments, which has helped build independence and respect for shared learning spaces. The reusable paper covers have been especially powerful during our genetics and heredity lessons, allowing students to practice Punnett squares, diagrams, and written explanations without worrying about wasting paper or making permanent mistakes. Pencil-top erasers have supported this same mindset, giving students the freedom to revise their thinking quickly and keep working without frustration.\r\nA specific moment that stood out was during a Punnett square practice activity where students worked in pairs to predict trait outcomes. Instead of hesitating, students used their covers to try multiple versions of their answers, erase, and revise until they reached correct reasoning. The room was filled with conversation, comparison, and peer explanations—students were learning from their mistakes instead of avoiding them. When they first saw the materials, students were excited and immediately commented that the classroom felt \"more like a science lab\" and \"more professional,\" especially knowing they would be trusted to use the materials daily. Moving forward, students will continue using these tools as we deepen our study of heredity, including more complex probability models and trait analysis activities. These resources are helping students build confidence, persistence, and stronger scientific thinking through hands-on practice and revision.","fullyFundedDate":1777913677769,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-student-learning-through-clea/10229663/","projectTitle":"Supporting Student Learning Through Clean and Reusable Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nicole Perkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8655044_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1668189307589","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/perkinsscience"},{"teacherId":8655044,"projectId":10231296,"letterContent":"When the new materials arrived, my classroom instantly felt more organized, creative, and engaging. Students began using the paper tray organizers to manage lab handouts, bell ringers, and interactive notebooks, which helped our daily routines run more smoothly. The dry erase markers are used constantly for quick checks for understanding, modeling scientific diagrams, and small-group problem solving. One favorite moment was during a forces and motion lesson, when students gathered around the Newton's cradle to observe energy transfer in action—sparking spontaneous questions, predictions, and meaningful scientific conversations.\r\nThe students' reactions were priceless. They were immediately drawn to the vintage biology posters, commenting on the detailed illustrations and asking questions about cells, anatomy, and organisms before the lesson even began. The washi tape was an unexpected hit; students loved using it to organize and personalize their science notebooks, lab reports, and interactive foldables. There was a real sense of pride and excitement, and students felt that the classroom belonged to them.\r\nThanks to these resources, our next steps include deeper hands-on learning and student-led exploration. We are currently working on interactive notebooks and mini-projects where students model scientific concepts using diagrams, data tables, and visual explanations. The organized space and engaging visuals help students stay focused, collaborate more effectively, and take ownership of their learning. Students are using the Punnett square activities during guided practice and small-group rotations to model how traits are passed from parents to offspring. The genetics and heredity flip chart has been especially helpful as a visual reference—students regularly flip back to it while working to check vocabulary, review examples, and make connections between dominant and recessive traits. One memorable moment came during a partner activity when a student confidently explained a genotype-to-phenotype connection to a classmate using the flip chart, showing real growth in both understanding and confidence.\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. Many commented on how colorful, hands-on, and \"way easier to understand than a worksheet.\" Several students asked if they could use the resources during independent work time, and others were eager to try predicting traits before even being prompted. The hands-on nature of the materials helped lower anxiety around a challenging topic and encouraged students to engage, ask questions, and take academic risks.\r\nNext, students will apply what they've learned by designing their own heredity scenarios and creating Punnett squares to predict outcomes for fictional organisms. They will also use the flip chart and study resources to prepare short explanations of how traits are inherited, which they'll share during small-group discussions and assessments. Thanks to our donors, students are moving beyond memorization and toward deeper scientific reasoning—thinking, talking, and working like real scientists.","fullyFundedDate":1777160394645,"projectUrl":"project/traits-in-action-exploring-heredity-ha/10120681/","projectTitle":"“Traits in Action: Exploring Heredity Hands-On”","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nicole Perkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8655044_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1668189307589","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/perkinsscience"},{"teacherId":9684298,"projectId":10270682,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our classroom and making this project possible! When the materials arrived, students immediately noticed the class colors and were excited that we had supplies that felt like they belonged specifically to our classroom community.\r\n\r\nThe thank-you cards have created one of my favorite moments so far. Students were genuinely excited to begin writing messages of appreciation to the people who invest in them and support their learning. Their reactions showed that these resources are more than classroom materials—they are tools that help build community and character.\r\n\r\nAs we continue moving through our learning this year, students will keep using these supplies during daily lessons, projects, and classroom activities. As a young first year teacher, I don't have the financial means to support my students as much as I would like so your donation means the world to me. Teaching sixth graders, I have learned that anything hands-on will help them be engaged in the topic of conversation while also learning the topic correctly. We are fixing to begin our Unit on Geometry which is perfect timing for your donation to get my project supported!\r\n\r\nWith the manipulatives provided, I will be able to engage students in the topic of geometry by giving them visual ideas on different shapes we will discuss. Our main topic of conversation for our donations will be Surface Area and Volume so students can visualize the 3-dimensional shape and understand the difference between these two concepts. Many students struggle with the idea of surface area only covering the surface where as volume discusses how much it holds. With the manipulatives given, I will be able to wrap the different shapes to demonstrate surface area and fill the shapes with water to represent volume. This will help students understand how the formulas connect to each topic so they are truly grasping the knowledge, not just memorizing. \r\n\r\nAgain, I can't thank you enough for supporting my students. They are my whole world and I want to provide them opportunities that they can use for many years to come.
