This year, I will be teaching a new group of sixth graders in a self-contained classroom. The items on this list will help create a classroom library that reflects identities and experiences of all my students this year and in the future. The goal of building this library will be to help foster a love of reading through the exploration of diverse genres and stories in which my students see themselves reflected. This will also help promote discussion of meaningful topics and themes explored within literature to broaden their horizons and connect with our communities (at school and beyond). The books provided through this list will ensure students have access to a multitude of titles to supplement other resources we will explore throughout the year. Students will be able to choose texts that interest them and can use these books to grow stronger as readers.
