Approximately 12 of my elementary and middle school students are non-verbal or limited verbal. Speech therapy gives them a voice by teaching them to use an augmentative or alternative (AAC) device. We currently use an iPad with the LAMP Words for Life app. I have an iPad that was issued by the district but it is older and can no longer be updated. Since I only have one iPad, we use it during speech therapy sessions however I cannot allow students to take it to their classroom since I use it with multiple students. Being able to use the device throughout the day is vital to learning communication. They have so much to say but no way to say it! I have tried giving them paper printouts of a communication board but they are hard to keep track of and are not effective. The students rely on the speech output from the app to learn new words and to be understood by others. I am asking for 2 iPads that will be used in the classrooms to promote carryover of the communication skills they learn during speech and language therapy sessions. I am also asking for 2 cases to protect the iPads and make them last years.
