The Covid 19 pandemic has necessitated that we use distance learning methods, which unfortunately for our STEM students, has reduced hands-on learning that is normally received in the classroom. This project allows the students to design and produce a health related product that will address a health concern of the pandemic. Hand washing protocols for Covid19 recommends washing hands for at least 20 seconds. Students will make a hand washing soap dispenser which will play music for 20 seconds to queue them to be mindful of this requirement. Sending a Raspberry Pi home with each student will reinforce STEM principles allowing them the opportunity to learn coding, problem-solving, and practice real world skills that students need to be successful in an ever increasing technological world. The materials needed are a soap dispenser and a Raspberry Pi, which is a tiny inexpensive computer that can be programmed with a speaker and motion detector.
