With distance/virtual learning making up 35% (or more) of our students this year, I am finding it difficult to keep the relationships that I've created over the past several years with them. When at-home children come in for testing and see the other children at school, they are often discouraged and jealous. They don't understand why they are at home and other children are here. So, we came up with a plan. With the help of student leaders and staff in the building, we want to start providing a video newsletter that can be shared to everyone. That way, the students at home can still feel a connection to their school and teachers. With your help we can reach them. We are a community school that has lost a significant piece of our family so we want to go back to engaging all students, no matter where they are learning! We know many of our kiddos want to see our faces, hear our voices, and know everything is going to be okay. With these video clips of what is happening around the building and shout-outs for birthdays, we can begin to get back what we are missing. We can record and post events, messages from students about current events ("Did you hear the 4th grade girl's bathroom is haunted?!") and anything else that would bring them back into our community.
