The materials I am requesting will allow students to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts we are working on at home. Just because we are not able to be in the classroom does not mean students should not be able to access learning materials. Especially in a special education setting, students need access to hands-on materials that they can manipulate in order to understand new concepts and stay engaged. Having materials at home will allow my students to work independently and implement problem-solving skills instead of staring at a screen all day. They can try examples on their own and gain independence that is hard to foster in the online setting. As students progress, they will continue to use these materials throughout the year and even in future years, where they will be better equipped to further their learning at home.
