These books, journals, and snacks will help students to be more engaged and feel safe. By adding new books to the classroom, students are exposed to new and possibly different ideas and points of view. Using journals, we write about our reading often and explain the thoughts and facts we have developed through our reading. Students need to feel safe and comfortable when at school. We can create this by helping to provide snacks to those who may not have snacks at home to bring to school. This closes the gap and encourages students by them not worrying when lunch will be due to hunger.
