No one learns from sitting still and listening to someone talk, especially first graders! Young learners do best by getting involved in hands on activities. My students will use these manipulatives to learn how to add, make groups of ten, and even how to subtract. My students will learn better literacy skills by using phonics cards to help them read and write. Since my students are attending first grade through Zoom, they will receive manipulatives to use at home that will enhance their learning and engagement. My students will be so excited to have their own materials and not just watch me use them through the computer screen. They will practice different early math skills with the manipulatives and we will use the storage containers to store everything neatly when we are done. Eventually, when we can all come back to school- they will use the rug to sit on to practice their literacy skills and read independently.
