My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in problem solving. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my classroom generally do not care for math... until we talk about it in real world examples. Monthly phone bill anyone? We don't have easy access to a "highlighter-safe", color printer, so I would like to have one in our room to print colorful graphic models for them to manipulate and work on. Struggling mathematicians will engage in problem solving that they can access and manipulate. Students who engage in problem solving start to find Algebra accessible and dare I say, fun! Helping students begin to learn that Algebra is fun is the perfect way to build better problem solvers and critical thinkers. Colorful graphic models are a gateway to better mathematics, problem-solving, and algebraic skills for reluctant math students. My students will love getting their hands on these.
