My students are a diverse group of learners with various backgrounds and reading levels. This was my first year teaching and the one thing I noticed more than anything was that my students were having trouble finding books to fall in love with. In 3rd grade, we are exploring chapter books and picture books and students are still figuring out what they are most interested in. I asked my students what their favorite books and authors were this year and observed the books that were most frequently read in my library. I have used those suggestions to make this list of books. There are books here with Black main characters, with Latino/a main characters, with strong female leads, and more. I want each of my students to see themselves represented in my library. I want to start off the year with a strong and diverse library that makes students excited for reading time. It is my goal to show each of them how much a good book and a love of reading can impact their life.
