I am requesting a new iPad and MacBook to allow me to teach my students, share and annotate my screen, complete grading, and once we are back in person these resources will be compatible with my classroom’s Smartboard and allow for a seamless transition. I need to share my screen and have my students see what I am teaching in real time. I want to teach through slideshow presentations. To communicate the information I must show my students how to solve problems and understand concepts step by step, a tiresome and futile process given my current situation and equipment. This equipment includes a ten-year-old HP laptop with a camera that does not function properly, preventing students from clearly seeing me or my lesson presentations. The only other tool in my ill fitted arsenal is an iPad from 2010, which does not have any adequate writing capabilities, and I have been reduced to buying a pen stylus from the dollar store and using the only app I could find in order to try to share my screen and have my students see what I am teaching in real time. I have been a Mathematics educator for seventeen years, throughout my years of teaching I have had my fair share of difficulties; however, none have prepared me or my students for the challenges that Covid-19 would bring. Once quarantine started my administration was forced into complete remote learning. Needless to say it was not a seamless transition along with the obvious difficulties that come with teaching through minimal contact and human connection.with the aid of your organization I believe that I can educate, communicate, and connect with my students in a more efficient and effective way, despite the distance and barriers we are faced with.
