My 3-6-year-old students are eager to explore our classroom. Everything is exciting to them with newly added tasks of learning new norms for sharing, exploring, and transitioning between activities. Due to their disabilities, my students need added supports to learn routines and procedures to maintain safety. New structures require students to learn specific ways to handle materials such as how to get them and how to put them back. My students learn routines of how, where, and when to wash their hands. The more comfortable my students feel about their environment and the more they understand new safety procedures, the more they will engage in their learning. The air purifier, along with replacement filters, will help keep our air clean and cycled through along with killing any harmful germs that may linger. The dispensers will allow students to maintain their hands clean without spreading germs. The storage containers and pencil pouches will help us organize school materials for easy access. It will also allow us to personalize learning materials for students. Putting materials in these closed containers will decrease the chances of germs being spread from student to student and help keep everyone safe and healthy. The books will provide stories for us to learn about and reference as we discuss and learn the importance of wearing a mask and staying safe. The deep breathing balls will provide a great visual to practice calm down breathing techniques as we navigate our safety first classroom together.
