My student activists are always in search of rich literature experiences that touch upon issues of social justice. The children that I teach want to have books that serve as windows and mirrors. It is in stories that humans can learn about the experiences of others and connect to those who have had lives like them. Reading is the perfect opportunity to showcase a variety of cultures, races, and traditions through engaging texts. These picture books will allow all students a shared experience with beautiful stories that are by and about people of color and will ensure that all voices are heard. Additionally, the wireless headphones will serve as a tool for my students to create digital presentations that show off their civic passions. Students are learning through the lens of antiracism and will use literature to cultivate their empathy for others and create digital content to share with the world.
