One thing we don't have in my choir room is a set of hand drums or percussion instruments. There is so much beautiful music that can be edified by a strong rhythmic accompaniment. When performing this style of music in the past, we have had to borrow instruments from other schools, or simply forego the composer's rhythmic instrumentation. I would love to provide my students with a few quality djembes, tubanos, congas, bongos, or hand drums to help us create even more amazing music together. The use of these rhythmic instruments will help solidify their understanding of beat and rhythm, develop greater musicianship, and make cross-cultural connections as we are better able to portray music from other countries and people.
