Due to Covid our students have missed out on so much hands-on, meaningful learning. Play has had to be put on the backburner to try and reduce the risk of spreading this disease. The items in this list are geared mostly toward our purposeful play initiative!
What is so incredible is that these materials are used by all kindergarten students at our school and offer them play activities that help enhance creative thinking and problem-solving, sensory development, and fine and gross motor skills! Play is the primary way children explore their surroundings. Engaging in purposeful play helps my students make discoveries about their surroundings and others, build knowledge, and experiment with their world. Students can learn and retain math, literacy, and social skills. Purposeful play helps students to self-regulate and interact with others in socially appropriate ways. These are some of the most important skills for students to learn at a young age in order to have continued academic and social learning success in the future. They are also the skills that they have not been able to learn with Covid restrictions
With these items we hope to cultivate a space for meaningful purposeful play as these kids are experiencing the most normal year of school they’ve had since the pandemic started.
