When people initially think of ceramics, they consider the pinch pots they may have made as a child in grade school or elementary. Some students have never even worked with clay before. One of the most important draws to a ceramic program is having ceramic wheels. Wheels are not just meant to create functional items but to teach students different skills. Pottery wheels allow students to express their individual creativity while focusing on the task, learn from mistakes, and work through problems. I have seen so many students fail but return with dedication and intensity to master the art of the wheel. Most classes right now range from 14-25 students but enrollment is rising. Having 2-6 ceramic wheels will help increase the draw of our program and set the bar high for the work that comes out of our school.
