This project will help to build a classroom set of ukuleles for upper elementary students at my school. A foundation has been built in the lower elementary grades around rhythm, harmony, melody, improvisation, and composition. The use of ukuleles in the classroom is a fantastic way for the students to bring all of that learning and exploration together. I will be using the ukuleles for the students to accompany other songs and dance, both familiar and unfamiliar from the genres of blues, folk, pop, and rock. The inclusion of a bilateral instrument, such as a ukulele, is a fantastic way for students to further develop both their fine and gross motor movement control on both sides of their bodies. The use of familiar and popular music will be a great motivating element for students who may struggle to find their niche in school life, not the mention the curricular and coordination benefits of the ukulele. Please consider helping me to built a classroom set of ukuleles for my students to enrich their learning!
