After having taught two years (and having been a kid myself), I know indoor recess isn't nearly as entertaining as outdoor recess. We would be stuck drawing on paper, reading a book, talking with friends, and finding ways to pass the time. Luckily, my teachers had resources allowed us to make indoor recess a little more enjoyable. They'd have board games, card games, building blocks, and other kinds of games to help us make indoor recess a fun time. With this in mind, I want to change the minds of my students by giving them alternatively fun resources where they can use their creative brains to make indoor recess more enjoyable. With their being such a diversity of students in my class, I want to be able to reach multiple types of players, such as the builders, creators, team-players, and the curious. I also want the items I request to be used in a way that helps build my students' social skills by having the desire to interact with each other to make use of being stuck indoors. My project asks for materials, such as STEM marble pipes and LEGO bricks to allow my builders and creators to have the opportunity to build whatever they want. Other items, such as Operation, Jenga, Ring Toss, and other games, will give my class opportunities to build relationships with their peers by inviting them to play these games. With the TeachersPayTeachers gift card, I want to find activities to share with my class that they can do during indoor recess time if they so choose. I'm hoping that by providing these items for my class, that they will rethink what indoor recess is like and be able to see it as a fun opportunity versus a downer on their day.
