These materials will enhance my students' learning by giving them the opportunity to gain real hands-on experience with many aspects of Medieval life. By letting them hold a "sword" in their hands, the students will be able to more personally connect with the people and legends we discuss in our classroom in a safe environment. This will allow them to "see themselves" in the great heroes of the past and to connect the actions of these great men and women to their daily lives. What child hasn't imagined themselves as a brave knight, battling a fearsome dragon? Richard the Lionheart, Salah ad-Din, Joan of Arc, and even St. George, Robin Hood and King Arthur. These are all heroic men and women who have been admired through the ages. These materials will give my students the opportunity to "become" those legends themselves, and through that connection learn how to be the kind of person they want to be.
