Students in our population need after school opportunities that will help enrich their experiences like beekeeping. This will teach our students the importance of bees in our ecological systems and sustainability. Students will use direct skills of record keeping, biology of bee, effects on our ecosystems, care and maintaining bee colonies. The hands on work will provide students with authentic, real-life application through experiential learning. Beekeeping is an unusual hobby and choice for urban students, and that is why it is so vital our students have these experiences. Using hands-on materials, students will become actual beekeepers, manage bee resources and pests, as well as harvest honey. Students will be able to wear bee suits, and set up a beehive after they have learned the basics of beekeeping through different types of learning including book studies.
