I am trying to create the same classroom that I had when we were in a real room. I used restorative circles last year, and it had an amazing impact on classroom management and academic performance. I have been trying to create similar connections in a virtual environment. I am not allowed to make home visits, so I received permission to meet my students at our school with a "special surprise." I want us to see each other and have a sense that we are all more than heads in boxes on a computer screen. I hope to have paper, pencils, and pens that will encourage them to take notes and participate more during our Zoom classes. I will give them tips on how to attack online assignments, but it will be a lot easier when they have materials for brainstorming. I also asked for stress balls, coloring pencils, and sketch pads because kids are stressed and lonely. I want to give them small little ways to comfort themselves. Most importantly, I want them to know that the person on the other side of the screen loves them!
