My students come from diverse backgrounds, predominantly Hispanic. Our school is Title 1 which provides free breakfasts and lunches to our students. The area surrounding the school is comprised mostly of apartment buildings and some residential homes. The neighborhood is somewhat transitional. My students struggle to read but every day when they walk through our classroom door they are eager to learn. They always have a positive attitude and a willingness to help each other. Working in small groups allows me to target each student's skill deficit so that they can learn those skills needed to read independently.
